Vastu Shastra in Modern Architecture

Vastu Shastra in Modern Architecture

Vastu Shastra has been rooted in Indian architecture for centuries and has to date its mark pretty evident in modern architecture. Though it might sound old-school, architects, interior designers and builders are making sure that their projects are Vastu compliant.

But why is Vastu Shastra so important?

You must have seen those property descriptions on property sites—VASTU COMPLIANT. Interior designers and architects also design plans according to Vastu principles. This isn’t just a way of advancing their businesses but also an effort to keep the traditions alive and ensure the beliefs, minds, and hearts of the people residing in those spaces are at peace.

Simply put, Vastu Shastra is all about creating a harmonious living space. It basically works around the influence of five elements (earth, water, fire, air and space) and their directions on the well-being of people residing in that space.

The role of Vastu in modern architecture

In today’s urban landscape, adhering to Vastu principles could be challenging. However, with innovative ways and solutions, modern-day architects and designers have made it feasible to incorporate those in their designs. Here is how:

●      Placing the doorways in either north or east direction to be aligned with         the home's positive energy.

●      Making the use of natural light with the help of large windows, open         floor plans and skylights.

●      Using calming blues and green in living spaces and yellow in the kitchen         to evoke specific energies.

Modern challenges and creative solutions

In some projects especially in urban cities like Mumbai where space constraint is an issue, some designs may not be possible. To curb these problems you can use some creative solutions.

●      Making the right use of mirrors, plants and crystals and placing them in         the right corners can help the places that deviate from the Vastu         guidelines     to redirect.

●      The use of the Vastu pyramid and integrating it into modern designs can         help balance the energy of the space.

●      Wind chimes are yet another way to bring positive energy and sound into         your home.

Why Vastu Shastra Still Matters

Despite technological advances and evolving lifestyles, Vastu Shastra remains deeply rooted in the traditional Indian mindset because of its focus on human well-being. Many homeowners believe that incorporating the Vastu principles in their living spaces has helped improve mental wellness, foster better relationships and even enhance prosperity.

A Harmonious Blend

When we talk about advancements in modern architecture, we also need to see how effectively they blend modern aesthetics while keeping the traditions intact. Given that Vastu Shastra is deeply rooted in Indian architecture a harmonious amalgamation of two is maintained. The architects and designers are creating homes that are not only visually appealing but also energetically balanced. That is what makes Indian Architecture truly brilliant and keeps the traditions alive.
